The saying "agriculture is the backbone of the economy" is quickly becoming inapplicable to Vietnam. As the country undergoes dramatic structural transformation and economic growth, Vietnam is leaving behind its agrarian past and emerging as a powerhouse of Southeast Asia. But, what does all this mean for the lower-class farmers in the agricultural sector?

For my summer project, I initially set out to document the marginalized lives led by Vietnamese farmers via interviews, questionnaires, and finally, a research paper compiling my findings. However, spending a few days with Bà, a Vietnamese farmer, I realized this an opportunity lost if I did not record my time with her. What an interesting person, I remember thinking. A charming and beautiful soul, Bà gave me a glimpse into her life. This website documents my attempt at capturing my time with her through three perspectives -- the personal, the voice, and the visual.
